IMPORTANT REMINDER: WHAT IS DIABETES?

Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by high levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood. This is due to a dysfunction in the production or use of insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates glucose metabolism. There are mainly two types of diabetes: type 1 diabetes, where the pancreas does not produce insulin, and type 2 diabetes, where the insulin produced is insufficient or poorly used by the body. Diabetes can lead to a variety of health complications, including cardiovascular problems, nerve disorders, and vision problems.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU ARE SICK: THE SYMPTOMS

Symptoms of diabetes can vary depending on type and severity, but generally include:

  • Excessive thirst and frequent urination: Frequent need to urinate and feeling of intense thirst, even after drinking plenty of fluids.

  • Fatigue: Feeling tired or weak, often due to the inability of glucose to enter cells effectively.

  • Unexplained weight loss: Rapid weight loss, despite a normal or increased appetite, particularly in type 1 diabetes.

  • Blurred vision: Changes in vision due to fluctuations in blood glucose levels.

  • Slow healing of wounds: Cuts and scrapes take longer to heal, and infections may be more common.

  • Numbness or tingling: Sensations of tingling or numbness in the hands or feet, often associated with diabetic neuropathy.

HOW IT IS CURED: TREATMENT OF DIABETES

Treatment of diabetes aims to maintain blood glucose levels within a normal range. For type 1 diabetes, treatment includes administering insulin by injection or pump. For type 2 diabetes, treatment may include oral medications, dietary changes, and regular exercise. Regular monitoring of blood sugar is essential to adjust treatment. Continuous medical monitoring helps manage diabetes and prevent long-term complications.

PROGRESS OF THE INTERVENTION

THE FOLLOW-UP OF THE INTERVENTION

I HAVE DIABETES,
WHAT SHOULD I DO?

When treating diabetes, the patient receives personalized advice on blood sugar management, including dietary changes and an exercise program. For type 1 diabetes, insulin is given via injections or a pump. For type 2 diabetes, oral medications may be prescribed. Regular monitoring allows treatment to be adjusted and the effects on blood sugar and general health to be monitored.

After diabetes surgery, the patient will need to follow a treatment plan that includes insulin injections or oral medications, dietary changes, and an exercise program. It is crucial to monitor blood glucose levels regularly to adjust treatment as needed. The patient may experience adjustments in their daily habits and will need to maintain regular follow-up visits with their doctor. Ongoing counseling on diabetes management and screening for complications is also necessary for effective long-term management.

We recommend that you make an appointment with our office if you are facing diabetes problems.
